Peewee Select Caps Off the Season with Stouffville Tournament Win
Back in November the Peewee Select team skated together for the first time in an away game against Stouffville. They won that Game 7-0. Their next game they lost to Aurora 2-0. After that they built an impressive record of 22-0-5 for the remainder of the season taking on HL Select teams, a NYHL Tier 1 Select team, and several MD teams. The team finished the season by taking part in the Stouffville Year Ender Bender.
With 12 teams in three pools the boys couldn't lose a game if they wanted to clinch a spot in the semi-finals. In their first game Barrie met a familiar opponent, Richmond Hill, and won 2-0. Their second game was against the Oshawa Hawks. Barrie surrendered two quick goals early in the first but fought hard the rest of the game. With less than a minute left and still down 2-1 Barrie pulled their goalie and tied the game keeping their chances of playing on Sunday alive. In the final game of the round-robin Barrie went up against Flamborough. With only a five goal margin being allowed in official scoring the boys did all they could with a convincing 11-4 win. All they could do now was wait and see if the other pools game results would advance them to the semis.
They ended up making the cut and found themselves in a rematch with the Oshawa Hawks. This time the boys weren't giving Oshawa anything early and stormed out to a quick lead. Oshawa fought hard to try and mount a comeback but Barrie held them off for an 8-6 victory advancing them to the finals. In the last game of their season they found themselves right back where it all started, in the Stouffville Arena playing the host team, Stouffville. The boys played hard and won the final game 6-1 to capture their third tournament championship of the year.
