Last weekend the Minor Midget A Blue team took to the ice to compete in
the International Silver Stick tournament in Newmarket. Teams from across
Canada and the US came to play for this coveted title, banner and of course
stick. Our group had teams from Edmonton, Colorado, Texas, Pennsylvania,
New York and Ontario regional winners.
The Minor Midget A Blue finished the round robin winning all 4 games and outscoring the opponents (Texas, London, Woolwich, Warwick NY) 12 to 2. This fantastic start was due to a complete team effort propelling the team forward to defeat a team from Glenwood Springs Colorado in the quarter finals 3 to 2. The semi-final game had the team meet London again and a chance for London to erase the lose to us in the round robin game. It was a close game with London throwing everything at Barrie, but they came up short losing 3 to 2. Barrie was heading to the finals!
The championship game ended up being against Orillia after they made their way through a semi-final against Stratford in multiple period overtime win against Stratford. The final outcome wasn’t what we wanted, but coming home with Silver is ok too! The entire team and parents should be proud of the accomplishment this weekend.
Congratulations to the Minor Midget A Orillia Terriers on the Gold! The sportsmanship these 2 teams showed each other and the other teams both on and off the ice by far surpasses any medal!
