The Telus Barrie Red Bulls Won the Bob Black Memorial Tournament, check out this article to read more about their championship run!
Facing tough competition in the Round Robin Pool #3 with Fort Henry Paladins (Kingston) , Cumberland Dukes (Ottawa) and the Richmond Royals (Ottawa) the Peewee “Telus Barrie Red Bulls” advanced to the Semi Final. There we faced a very strong Durham Crusaders Blue team that had not lost a game this season! The Red Bulls came out right out of the gate opening the scoring by James Leonard from the blueline in the first minute going on to win a very rough, penalty laden game 5 to 0
We advanced to the finals versus the Apsley Flames a team that qualified for the International Silver Stick and went on to be Semi Finalist in the International Silver Stick Tournament. We played end to end hockey for the 1st and 2nd periods with the score still being 0-0 at the end of the 2nd. I told the boys this game can’t go to overtime we have 15 minutes left. In the 3rd our Captain Sam Meyer opened up the scoring with Nathan Platt our Assistant Captain getting the ensuring goal and winning the Peewee Championship Final 2-0 versus the Apsley Flames.
Many thanks to outstanding play from the entire team and to our team parents whom trekked back and forth to Oshawa for three days. Excellent defence and goaltending posting 4 shutouts out of 5 games played. Our Red Bulls forwards moved and passed the puck extremely well with everyone potting some downright pretty goals.
Well done Telus Barrie Red Bulls
