Season Update #2
We hope you have been out enjoying the warmer weather and are looking forward to the province’s reopening over the coming weeks and months.

We know many of our members and families are excited about the upcoming season and we have had several enquiries from those wanting to volunteer in the upcoming 2021/2022 hockey season. If you are considering volunteering your time with BMHA there are some things you can do now to prepare.

All BMHA volunteers require a current Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) which are valid for 3 years, if you provide BMHA with the original we will make a copy and update your Hockey Canada profile. To obtain your police check you must contact the police service the serves your residential area. For example, if you live in Barrie it would be Barrie Police Service, if you live in Springwater you will contact the O.P.P. and if you reside in Innisfil it will be South Simcoe Police Service. In the fall vulnerable sector screenings can take quite a long time as police services are overwhelmed with requests from individuals wishing to volunteer at schools. We recommend getting you police check done now to avoid the rush.

In addition to police checks, volunteers can also complete the required courses on the OMHA website. All BMHA volunteers must take the Respect in Sport for Activity Leader Course and the Gender Expression and Identity Course. If you wish to be part of a bench staff as a trainer, you will require the Trainer’s course as well. Here is a link where all of these courses can be found under the “Bench Staff” tab: https://www.omha.net/

If you are unsure if your police check is still valid or what courses you currently have/need please reach out to the BMHA registrar Niki Grant in. You can email her at [email protected] or she can be reached by phone at 705-734-1121.

It is our hope that BMHA volunteers take the opportunity to prepare for next season over the coming months so our teams can be rostered quickly. It is exciting to think that if the province continues to progress, we could be back on the ice in 3 months! We know that COVID has made for tough times for some of our BMHA families. If you are experiencing financial hardship please don’t let that keep your child from playing hockey. We want to ensure that all of the participants who want to play hockey have the opportunity to. If your family is in need of assistance please visit the Financial Assistance tab on the BMHA website or feel free to call our office for guidance.

We continue to look for sponsors for the upcoming season. If you or someone you know are interested in sponsoring this season please email BMHA’s Director of Sponsorship, Robin Hillman at:
