Novice Silver are Innisfil Fun Festival Champions
Submitted By Jill Robertson on Wednesday, January 28, 2015
This past weekend, the BMHA Novice Team 8 Silver team participated in the Innisfil Fun Festival hockey tournament.

The 14 boys and 1 girl opened the weekend with a loss to the Beeton Stingers 5-2.  As the team chemistry started to gel, they came together to win the next game 11-1 versus the Ayr Flames.  The next match was against the hometown Innisfil Winterhawks, which ended in a closely battled 3-3 draw.  Through tiebreakers, the team made the 6th seed and Sunday games became a reality.  Sunday became "Rematch Sunday" for the team as we met the Innisfil Winterhawks to push forward towards the semi's.  The 4-2 win set up a match with the heavily favorite Sudbury Sharks.  A close 2-1 win, and the team was off to the finals for the rematch of the opening game against the Beeton Stingers.  This was a tight end to end game, and up 2-1 with 5 minutes left, the team killed off a 4 minute penalty, and scored a shorthanded goal to give the parents and fans some breathing room.  One more late in the contest, and the victory and tournament was solidified.  The final was highlighted by the stellar goaltending of Dante Claro-Guarrasi, and with the support of team, the team was victorious.  The team really came together, battling and supporting each other, really earning the championship.  They overcame the odds after a shaky first game to finish on the right side of the podium.
