Colts make semi finals at Sudbury Silver Stick
The Midget AA Colts were at the Silver Stick finals in Sudbury over the weekend.

The Colts started the weekend knowing they needed to have a successful first day to have a chance at making the semi finals.
Game 1 was against a strong Burlington Eagles team and this game did not disappoint.  The colts took the lead in the 1st period when Scott Ummels made no mistake on a puck down low with the assists to Mitch McMahon and Ben Painter.
At the mid way point of the second, the Eagles tied the game.  The teams exchanged changes during the third but the game remained a 1-1 tie as Owen Kellachan stood tall in net to secure the tie.

Game 2 saw the Colts face off against the Ottawa Sting at the Sudbury Arena, home of the Sudbury Wolves.  The Colts came out motivated to secure 2 points and give themselves a chance at moving on from the round robin play.  The motivation payed off as the Colts were flying and dominated the entire game.  Ryan Connick led the way with 2 goals, one an amazing individual effort to fight off defenders and beat the goalie on a play that he was simply not going to be denied on.  Cameron Taylor tipped a shot from Caleb Booth past the goalie and Adam Lewis finished off the scoring on the power play with the assist to set up man Patrick Galloway.
Michael Brassor was strong in net when needed and kept the door closed when Ottawa tried to push back in the 2nd.

Game 3 was a match up against the provinces #1 ranked team, North York Knights.  Well, this one was ugly as the Colts had no answer for the Knights.  When the dust settled, the Knights skated to a convincing 7-1 win but even in a bad loss, there is sometimes motivation, and the Colts ended up with 55 reasons for motivation...….

Even with the loss, the Colts secured second place in their division and a date in the semi finals with league rival Newmarket Redmen.  Now this was a hockey game.  The Colts came out fired up and ready to show they can play, and they did.  The Colts carried the play for the majority of the game and created a number of quality scoring chances, just missing a couple great chances to take the lead in the game.  With just 41 seconds left in the first, Newmarket scored and that 1-0 lead held up until the final buzzer.
Michael Brassor was outstanding in net and the Colts can hold their heads high after that one as they truly deserved a better outcome.

If that effort can be carried forward, we have some great hockey coming up !!

Next up, Pickering tournament starting Friday December 7th.

We will also have the Midget AA AllStar game player selections this week.
