Tournament Grand Slam with Gretzky!
Congratulations to the Market Buffet BBQ & Smokehouse Minor Atom A Barrie Colts for winning their fourth tournament championship of the 2015-2016 season by capturing the Wayne Gretzky International tournament in Brantford.
The team began the round robin portion of the tournament with a solid 5-0 win over the host Brantford 99ers.
The next two games had the Colts lose to the Sarnia Sting 4-1 and pull out a tie with the London Mustangs 4-4 on a goal with 14 seconds left in the game. In the final game of the round robin, the Colts defeated the Halton Hills Thunder 6-2.
This left the Colts in 3rd place after the round robin and facing a semi-final game against Sarnia. In the semi-final game the Colts got back to playing their style of game and won 5-2.
In the finals the Colts faced the London Mustangs again. The Colts got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but by the end of the second period the score was tied at two. In the third period, the Colts took the lead and didn't look back winning the game 5-2 and taking home their fourth tournament championship of the season!
