This weekend the Scotiabank Barrie AA Colts participated in the Regional Silver Stick tournament in Georgina.
The Colts opened the tournament with a lacklustre performance against their league rival, the Newmarket Redmen, and came away with a 5-0 loss. Game 2 saw a revamped line-up take on the North Durham Warriors. The Colts started slowly but came on strong to pick up the 4-2 win, but this”Tough As Nails” group was about to show that their best hockey was yet to come.
Saturday morning saw the Colts put on a dominant performance beating the Vaughan Panthers by a score of 5-0. Jack Giroux picked up the shutout. Saturday nights game was a must win and the Colts handed the Whitby Wildcats a 4-0 loss, with Jayden Short picking up the shutout in this contest.
Their 3-1 record was good for second place in their division and a birth in the semis against the Greater Toronto Capitals. The Colts got some revenge in this one as the Caps had eliminated them in Chicago two weeks earlier. Justin Cunningham continued his torrid pace scoring both goals and Jack Giroux picked up another shutout in the 2-0 win.
The finals was a rematch with Newmarket. This action packed game saw the Colts break a scoreless tie in the second. They’d add 2 more goals before the end of the frame to take the championship with a 3-0 win. Jayden Short picked up the game MVP with his second shutout and the teams fourth straight.
The win punches their ticket to the International Silver Stick Finals in Port Huron Michigan in January.
