The
Barrie Colts U16 A team is celebrating its second tournament championship in a
row by taking home the first-place trophy from the Toronto Aero’s Winter Challenge (Jan 13-15, 2023).
Still on a high from winning the Peggy Hill Classic in November
2022, the U16 A boys fought hard to come out on top in this tournament with 3
wins and 1 loss in Round Robin games and then going all the way in the semi-final
and in the final games. In fact, the U16 A Colts were literally the talk of
Toronto minor hockey community by defeating the host team, Toronto Aeros in the
semi-finals and kicking them out of their own tournament. While our only loss
in the Round Robin was to the Aeros with a score of 2 to 1, the parents of the Aero
team were telling our parents that our team presented the first real challenge to
them in almost three years! In fact, after
the game the Aero’s player were congratulating Colts goalie, Aiden Ogilvie, for
making many incredible saves and keeping the score low! But when we handed the Aeros
a 3-1 defeat in the semi-finals, parents from other GTA teams were all were talking
about it in the stands during the other games! Some of our players were also
approached by these parents congratulating them for taking down the #1 ranked A
team in the GTHL. What clinched the championship for the Colt was a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Eagles. Congratulations to the boys for their passion and teamwork,
and to the coaches for bringing the best out of them!
