2024 - 2025 Season

The Initiation Program is designed for children ages 4 – 8 years just learning to love the game of hockey.

 
U5 (Mytes) 4 years

This is a 20 week program with players on City of Barrie ice once per week.  We kick off the season with our annual IP Festival in September and the first 10 weeks will consist of skating instruction with National Training Rinks (5 weeks) followed by hockey fundamentals with South Simcoe Hockey School (5 weeks).  The next 10 weeks will include practices with informal scrimmages in a station based format with Hockey Canada recommended split ice.  Finally, we finish off our season with an exciting Tim Hortons Fun Day!

U7 - (5 - 6 years)

Minor Tykes (5 - 6 years) continue in player development with 16 on ice practices (City of Barrie ice) and 20 scrimmages (NTR ice).  Teams are formed in September with a White (intermediate) and Blue (beginner) division and will have 5 weeks of skating  instruction led by National Training rink Staff followed by 5 weeks of South Simcoe Hockey School hockey fundamentals. There will be weekly scrimmages and we end our season with our Tim Horton's Fun Day full of scrimmages, treats and prizes!

U8 -  (7 years)

Minor Novice (7 years) continue in player development with 16 on ice practices (City of Barrie ice) and 20 scrimmages (NTR ice).  National Training Rink staff will provide 5 sessions of Skating instruction and South Simcoe Hockey School will provide 5 sessions of instruction.  Teams are formed in September and end the season with our Tim Horton's Fun Day full of games, treats and prizes! 

National Training Rink staff will oversee our skating program to the (U5) Myte, U7 and U8 age groups of players. Players will be introduced to concepts such as forward and backward inside and outside edges through exercises that are based around detailed repetition.

U9 - (8 yrs)

Novice will have a 20 week, 20 practices/12 scrimmages/8 game season.  The first 12 weeks will consist of practices on City of Barrie ice with scrimmages held at NTR.  The final 8 weeks of the season will switch ice so that practices are held at NTR and games will be played on full City of Barrie ice.  Teams will participate in our annual Championship Day.
