Barrie Novice AA Team Scores Big For The Barrie Food Bank in The Coach4Food Challenge!
The OHL Barrie Colts and six BMHA Barrie Colts hockey teams
competed in the 2016 Coach4Food Challenge and raised a total of
32,522 pounds of food for The Barrie Food Bank. The BMHA Novice AA team
finished in first place by donating 11,897 pounds of food – more than double
the total weight of the second place team’s donation. With the Novice AA
team’s donation alone, The Barrie Food bank will be able to fill food orders to
feed 365 local families for a month!
Head Coach of the Novice AA Team - Shawn Bovair, saw this challenge as an opportunity to teach his players about the privilege of being able to play rep hockey, teamwork, and the importance of giving back to the community. As a reward for raising the most food the Novice AA team wins a practice with the OHL Barrie Colts coaching staff and will be recognized at a home game of the OHL Barrie Colts.
Special thanks to our players and families, to everyone who donated to our team, to Coach Matt Marshall and Victoria Jacobs for their generosity and tireless efforts for this great cause, and to Peter Sundborg at The Barrie Food Bank and the OHL Barrie Colts for organizing the Coach4Food challenge – The real winner of the challenge is our community and those who use The Barrie Food Bank’s service.
