New 2017-2018 MD Teams
Submitted By PHarris on Friday, April 7, 2017

In 2017-2018 the BMHA will be adding Minor Development (MD) teams in the Minor Bantam to Midget Rep division. The MD division will replace some current AE teams and is the division that will feature non body checking, AE skill level hockey.

For the past few years there has been discussion of having a non- body checking rep style component for hockey programs and this will begin to be introduced in the upcoming hockey season.  This program focuses on hockey skills taking out any type of body checking. This level has been part of many minor hockey leagues and the York Simcoe Hockey Association supports this change.

With the announcement of the launch of the MD division for the upcoming season, many of the current York Simcoe member centres have already made the decision to remove AE teams from the Minor Bantam to Midget levels and focus on MD hockey. The BMHA will continue to monitor the status of the AE program before making any decision for the 2017/2018 season.
