Bantam AA Finland/Sweden trip
Submitted By Brayden Engel on Wednesday, January 10, 2018
Congratulations to our Bantam AA team on a successful and memorable exhibition trip! Thanks to the Tyreso-Hanvikens, Jarna, Haki and ViikingIT hockey teams for accommodating the team and parents. In case you missed any details, we've summarized the trip for you here.

Despite a minor delay that caused the team to miss their connecting flight to start their trip, the Barrie Colts Bantam AA team enjoyed their 8 day Nordic tour with stops in Iceland, Finland and Sweden.

Playing a total of 5 exhibition games in their short stint combined with the travel and 7 hour time difference wore on the boys but they were resilient and represented our country well, finishing with a 2-2-1 record, including a 12 round shootout loss, against some stiff competition.

One opponent, the ViikingIT hockey team, is even lucky enough to be coached by former Montreal Canadien and veteran of 133 NHL games, Juha Lind. This team consists of 49 players, all who skate at the same time in skill-focused practices.

Our Colts enjoyed some sightseeing in Helsinki and Stockholm which included stops at the Nobel Peace Prize and Vasa War ship museums, as well as an immersion in the culture of their European companions.

A cruise ship, a few planes and some foreign automobiles later, the team returned home safely with a lifetime of memories to accommodate them as well as some newfound friends. They would like to thank their opponents once more for their impressive hospitality and learning experiences.
