Welcome to the 2025/2026 season with the Barrie Colts
U10-B team!
Dear Players and Families,
Welcome to the 2025/2026 season with the Barrie
Colts U10-B team! My name is Mike McGarr and I will be the head coach
for this upcoming season.
This season as your coach I am committed to providing you
with a positive environment that will help players develop skills, understand
the importance of teamwork, and just in general fall in love with the game of
hockey. Our practices will be high tempo
and ensure that we take advantage of the ice time as much as possible, focusing
on skating, shooting, puck handling, and positional play. I intend to teach
players the value of hardwork, commitment, leaning on eachother for support,
and the important of a positive mindset. I believe these core values will
translate beyond just the rink and create some well rounded kids.
I would describe my coaching style as “active yet positive.” By this I mean you will absolutely hear me
during games and practices but while being very involved vocally I always try
to keep things positive. I have always had a passion for hockey and this
definitely translates to my coaching style.
Our most important goal as a coaching staff is to ensure our team follows
the number one rule of hockey: Having fun. I will ensure that the culture
we create as a team makes each kid excited to come to the rink with a smile on
their face.

Season Overview
Once the team is selected, we’ll begin preparing for a full
and exciting season. We expect to play up to 50 games, including
regular season, exhibition, tournament, and playoff games. We are planning to
participate in 3 tournaments with the potential for a 4th.
In addition to games, we will have many practices throughout
the season, with a strong focus on skill development and team building. We’ll
also look to include outside development opportunities, such as specialized
skating or skills sessions, off-ice training, and team-building events to help
round out the players’ experience and growth.
This summer I will be giving the kids some beginner off-ice training
things to work on in preparation for the season and we may try to organize a
monthly team outdoor training session to start building some team comradery.
Please note: Families will be responsible
for BMHA registration fees, as well as participating in
team fundraising efforts to help cover tournament costs, development
opportunities, team events, and other seasonal expenses.
We’ll use both the team website and
the SportsHeadz app throughout the season to keep everyone
updated on schedules, team news, and important information. Families will be
encouraged to stay connected through both platforms to ensure nothing is
missed.

Player Evaluations
To form our team roster, players will participate in a
structured evaluation process that includes:
- One
skill session, focused on skating, puck handling, passing, shooting,
and competitive play
- One scrimmage
game, giving players a chance to showcase their skills in a game
setting
Tryout Schedule:
- Saturday,
May 10th 12:30-2:20pm EAST BAYFIELD
- Sunday,
May 11th 1:30pm ALLANDALE
A team of independent evaluators will
assess each player’s hockey abilities along with their effort,
attitude, and coachability. After the tryouts, we will update the team
website removing registration numbers of players who
have been released from the U10-B evaluations. These players will
then be invited to continue their journey at the Houseleague level.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for putting the
trust in me this season with the kids and I look forward to creating a lot of great memories.
Sincerely,
Mike McGarr
Head coach U10-B
