The
Barrie Jr. Colts Georgian MINIS reached the York-Simcoe league championship
final series against the regular season first place Richmond Hill team.
The MINIS defeated Aurora in the first round and then faced first place Richmond Hill and second place Markham in a three team pool. By winning two games and tying one, the MINIS moved on to the semi-finals and were up against a strong third place Barrie Jr. Colts Georgian BMWS team. The MINIS advanced to the finals by scoring the series winning goal with less than a second on the clock in the third and deciding game against their hometown rivals and friends.
In the finals, the MINIS once again faced Richmond Hill who had swept Newmarket in the other semi-final round. The MINIS were able to stretch the series to five games, with a big 6-2 win in front of a ruckus hometown crowd that included many of their friends from the other Jr. Colts team. Unfortunately, even with the support of a large crowd, making the trip down the 400 Highway brought the season to an end after a loss in game five.
The team staff and the player's families are very proud of how this team competed all season. They worked hard all year improving their basic hockey skills and it really showed late in the year and during an incredible playoff run.
Congratulations on a great team effort!
