The Barrie Colts U11A hockey team faced East Gwillimbury in the 2022-23 Brampton Regional International Silver Stick Tournament last week, scoring early and then holding on for sweet victory to win the vaunted event Dec. 29

After five games of thrilling, fast-moving, edge-of-your-seat hockey, the boys finished first in the round-robin with a 2-0-1 record after scoring 12 goals and allowing just three to advance to the semifinals.

The Colts were hungry. They came out strong and continued their effort to the end, knocking out the Woolwich Wildcats in a 9-1 victory and earning them a spot to compete in the final where they faced their league rivals, the East Gwillimbury Eagles. Both teams came out determined to win.

The Colts scored early into the second period and the intensity continued as it was anyone's game. The Barrie boys gave it everything they had and were able to hold off the Eagles from scoring, taking the 1-0 win and crowning them the 2022-23 Regional International Silver Stick Champions.

The Colts will now prepare to play in the International Silver Stick Tournament early in the new year against teams from around North America.

The Barrie team includes Cole Flachs, Cole Beaman, Daniel Soatto, Owen Rodney, Dylan Lee, Harrison Parker, Jack Davidson, Jake Comeau, Luke Thompson, Maddox Smith, Zac Vanek, Maddox Koval, Dominic Berube, Jacob Davidson, Walker Greavette, Che Mallette, and Matthew Vankrimpen.  The team staff includes Jamie Vanek (head coach), Don Rodney (trainer), Jon Berube (assistant coach), Brad Davidson (assistant coach), and Janice Smith (manager).
