2025–2026 U10 AA Barrie Colts Team Evaluations

Welcome Parents and Players!

We’re excited to welcome you to the evaluations for the 2025–2026 U10 AA Barrie Colts!

A team of impartial evaluators, along with myself as head coach, will be observing all players throughout the evaluation process. These evaluations will assist us in selecting the final roster for this year’s team. Once the process is complete, I’ll also be looking to appoint assistant coaches, a trainer, and a team manager.

Please keep in mind that this level of hockey is intended for dedicated and motivated players—and for families who are ready to commit to the time, effort, and investment required to support their player’s development. Those selected will not only join a hockey team, but also become part of a close-knit community of players, families, and coaches. Our coaching staff is committed to creating a positive culture—one focused on personal growth, character-building, and striving to be the best players and people we can be. We will emphasize values such as sportsmanship, discipline, hard work, commitment, and pride.

Evaluation Schedule & Location:
• April 26 | 8:00 AM – 10:50 AM – East Bayfield Community Center (Green): Skills & Drills
• April 27 | 9:00 AM – 11:50 AM – East Bayfield Community Center (Green): Skills & Drills
• April 29 | 5:00 PM – East Bayfield Community Center (Green): Scrimmage
• April 30 | 6:00 PM – Allandale Recreation Center (Red): Scrimmage

Evaluation Criteria:

Player selection will be based on a range of on-ice skills, including skating, puck handling, shooting, passing, focus, hockey sense, attitude, and coachability. Negative behavior such as selfishness, disrespect, or bullying—whether by players or parents—will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Player Status Updates:
After each evaluation session, it is the responsibility of each player’s family to check the team website for updates on eligibility to continue in the tryout process. Please understand that due to limited sessions, cuts will be made after each evaluation.

Team Meeting (Post-Selection):
Once the final team is selected, we will schedule a team meeting. This will be a great opportunity for players and families to meet, celebrate, and review the season plan. The coaching staO will work with families to find the most suitable time for everyone. We also encourage parents to prepare their players for all possible outcomes and to be supportive throughout this challenging process.

Season Overview:
The upcoming season will include:
• Up to 6 exhibition games
• 24–30 regular season games
• Up to 16 playoff games
• Roughly 60 league practices (not including additional on- and on-ice development)
• Participation in 4 tournaments (TBA), including a potential Can/Am Tournament

Commitment Expectations:
Participation in all team activities is expected. In addition to BMHA fees, all families will be required to participate in team fundraising (or buy-out) to help offset seasonal costs. Players and parents must also adhere to team rules, regulations, and dress codes. A team apparel fitting date will be announced at later date.

Please encourage your child to work hard, stay focused, and most importantly—have fun during the evaluation process.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly. My email is listed on the coach’s section of the U10 AA website. Looking forward to a great season ahead,

Will Cushnaghan
