Tryout Information 2025-2026

Greetings Players and Parents!

Welcome to the Barrie Colts U14A Blue tryouts for the 2025-2026 season!

It is with great anticipation and excitement that we welcome you to these tryouts!  It is our sincere hope that ALL of the players who attend these tryouts commit to demonstrating the kind of passion and determination that will be required of each and every player who is eventually selected to play for this team next season!

I know this is a stressful and busy time for players, parents, and coaches.

With this hope in mind, we anticipate that these tryouts will be very competitive and that we will have to make some extremely tough decisions in selecting the Barrie Colts U14A Blue team for the 2025-2026 season!!!

Being involved on this team will require an enormous commitment from both the parents and the boys as we will be doing a variety of on and off ice training and events during the summer and during the season and each parent and player will need to:

Ø  Commit (parents and/or players) to participating in ALL U14A Blue fundraising initiatives or be prepared to pay the required fees to compensate for any fundraising shortages.

Ø  Commit (players) to participating in an off-season strength and conditioning program.

Ø  Commit (players) to SHOOTING and HANDLING PUCKS regularly throughout the off-season! Players/Goalies should strive to shoot and handle pucks on a daily basis!!!

Ø  Commit (players/parents) to arriving at games, practices and team events at the specified times set forth by the TEAM. Arrival times at games will be 60 minutes prior to puck drop. Practice arrival times will be 30 minutes prior to going on ice (30 minutes prior to development skates) Some HOME GAME time arrivals may require 90 minutes on specified dates for Game Video Analysis Sessions.

I am extremely excited about the prospects of building a championship caliber team and culture for the upcoming 2025-2026 season! We wish each player the best of luck in their attempt to make this hockey team and thank them in advance for their efforts throughout the tryout process!!!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak to me directly!                                                                               Josh Dahmer 705-309-5674

Hockey is a TEAM sport and we believe that we as coaches, parents, and players must work together in order to have a fun and successful season.  Each player is equally important to our TEAM success and therefore should make a full commitment to school first, then being part of this team 110%.  We as coaches will co-operate with parents if discipline is required.  That being said, outside of school, if a player is to miss either a practice or a game he must notify a member of the coaching staff at least 24 hours prior to the time scheduled.

We will be looking to enter 4 tournaments this year, including the following:

2 local and 2 away that will require accommodations.

Hopefully the OMHA’s as well.

This will be my 25th season coaching and with my past AAA teams that I  have coached 3 of the teams have made it to the OHL Cup and they have won 2 Silver Medals at the OMHA Championship and 1 Gold Medal with the U12BB team as an assistant coach.

HOCKEY PHILOSOPHY

Ø  There is NO substitute for HARDWORK. There are NO shortcuts to SUCCESS!

Ø  100% EFFORT will be required and expected on a consistent basis. EFFORT is something each player can control.

Ø  Success in HOCKEY and Success in LIFE is attainable with proper PREPARATION, HARD WORK, COMMITMENT and DISCIPLINE!

Ø  Ice time will be FAIR but may NOT always be EQUAL

(PLAYING HARD + PLAYING SMART = PLAYING MORE)

Ø  Individual goals are important, but must reflect TEAM GOALS

Ø  Practices plans will be carefully designed to suit the needs of our team. Drills will be progressive in nature and will require proper concentration and focus to execute properly.

Ø  Practices and Training both on and off the ice will be HIGHLY demanding. PROPER physical conditioning, nutrition, Hydration and REST will be a MUST!

Ø  Players will be expected to abide by the rules of the organization, the dressing room and the extended team staff.

Ø  Players will be representing the Colts organization, their team, their families and the Barrie and surrounding communities and will do so in an appropriate manner AT ALL TIMES!

Ø  We will stress a system of team play that has our team committed to competing in ALL 3 ZONES of the ice!

I believe not only developing a team both physically but also psychologically and socially.   I demand a high level of work ethic; players are to practice and play at their highest level, as anything else is unacceptable.  Positive self-image is key to player success, so I place importance on areas such as dress code, appearance, and discipline both on and off the ice.  I think that the players represent themselves, their teammates, and their city and therefore should conduct themselves and others with the utmost respect.

I have a democratic coaching style as I value a mutual respect between the players and coaches.  I want my players to share in the opportunity for decision making and responsibilities as I believe this the best way for players to grow and develop.  While I allow the players to give input when they feel necessary, I also provide the appropriate amount of structure and rules to allow for me to give direction and make the key decisions.  I’m a very good listener and judge of character and I feel I have a good ability of getting each player to perform to their fullest potential.  My previous successes have come from understanding not only team development but also individual development as each player is different.  I understand that some players need to be challenged, while others need constant reinforcement and guidance

Yours in COLTS HOCKEY!
