Dear players & parents
On behalf of the Barrie Minor Hockey Association, I want to extend a warm welcome to the U15 'A' Blue tryout. I am thrilled to see so many talented athletes eager to showcase their skills and passion for the game. The primary objective of this letter is to inform each player and their respective families of key dates in addition to the expectations associated with competing for a spot on this team.
Tryouts
The tryout dates listed below will be used to fill 16 roster spots (8 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goaltenders).
Tryout 1: Sunday, May 11th, East Bayfield Arena (Green), 12:30–2:20 PM, Skills/Drills - Group A & B
Tryout 2: Monday, May 12th, Allandale Rec (Red), 7:00–7:50 PM, Scrimmage
Tryout 3: Tuesday, May 13th, East Bayfield Arena (Green), 8:30–9:20 PM, Scrimmage
Players are asked to sign in at the welcome table and collect their designated pinnie upon arrival. All pinnies are to be returned to the table at the end of the session.
All players will receive an email after each skate advising if they will be advancing to the next round or if they have been released to the BMHA U15 BB tryouts.
Code of Conduct
These tryouts are part of BMHA and are subject to the code of conduct which will be enforced. This code of conduct includes the use of cell phones in the changing room at any time, as they are not permitted. All infractions will be reported to the BHMA Risk Director.
Evaluators
Each tryout will include 3-5 evaluators who will objectively assess all players on several key attributes. New and returning players must earn their spot on the team, gauged on the following qualities.
- Attitude
- Grit/Competitiveness
- Skill
- Hockey Intelligence
Show up prepared and focused as the evaluation process will begin as soon as the player enters the arena. Please respect the evaluation process and understand that evaluators have been instructed not to discuss any results with anyone outside of the evaluation group. Questions related to player releases will not be acknowledged until after the tryout process has concluded. Please understand that this is non-negotiable.
Commitment
Team members can anticipate 3-5 rink sessions per week on average. Practices, games, and team events are not optional. YSMHL playoffs will take place over the course of March break and will require a full roster of players to be competitive.
Fundraising, dryland training and team building events will be added to the schedule with ample notice. Prepare to be fully committed to the process as it will take a united team to develop and be successful throughout the entire season. For our players to achieve their B.E.S.T ('Better Every Single Time'), they will be expected to show up and put in the hard work required. There are no short cuts.
Tournaments
We will participate in 4 tournaments throughout the season. Two of the four have been confirmed and are listed below.
- International Silver Stick - Georgina, Ontario - November 06th - 09th
- Kutting Edge Classic – Barrie, Ontario – November 21st – 23rd
The remaining tournaments may be out of town/overnight stays and will be communicated upon confirmation. All tournaments will be within the province of Ontario.
Jersey/Apparel Fitting
The jersey fitting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28th at St. Joseph's Catholic High School. The school is located on 243 Cundles Rd E, Barrie Ontario. Our teams time will be shared once it is made available. Players are asked to bring their hockey pants, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and shin pads to ensure accurate sizing.
Team/Parent Meeting
Scheduled to take place within 7 days of the final roster selection.
Parents, I would like to thank you for your continued support and dedication to your children's hockey pursuits. Your encouragement and involvement play a crucial role in their development as athletes and most importantly, individuals.
I wish you all the very best through this competitive tryout process.
Never give in, never give up, never quit! #bleedblue
Thank you,
Christopher Maisonneuve
