Welcome Letter U16 “A” White Barrie Colts

Parents, Guardians and Players
Welcome to all players, parents, and guardians to the 2025-2026 Barrie Colts U16 “A” White team tryouts. The information contained in the letter is to help in your decision-making process and to support your understanding of some of the goals and expectations of playing for the Barrie Colts U16 A White for the upcoming season. The tryout process can be stressful for the players and their families, and I hope that information presented will help to ensure you have a better understanding as your player goes through the process.
Players will be assigned a piney upon their arrival at the rink. The piney’s should be returned to registration table after each session. Parents are to ensure that correct contact information (email) is on file at the registration table at the first tryout session.
After each tryout, players will either receive an offer of commitment email from the coach with a private link to the team registration or a release email generated by the website by 1030am or before. Your player continues to attend the tryouts until either of these two emails (commitment or release) are received.
If your player receives a release email, their IPC number will no longer appear on the team webpage. They will automatically be added to the next eligible team tryout and their code will remain the same.
Private Registration Link: If your player is offered a spot on one of our BMHA Rep teams after a tryout, you'll receive a private registration link from the Coach.
Registration as Acceptance: Completing the registration process means you are accepting the offer of commitment. You have until 12:00PM (noon) the next day to Register and pay the required deposit. To register and pay deposit use the pay with installments option. To register and pay in full please use the pay in full option
Once You Accept an Offer: After you accept a team offer, OMHA will not permit you to accept an offer from another team for the same season. Exception for U18 Players: The only exception to this rule is for U18 players who are accepting an offer from an AAA or Junior team, these players will be granted a release.
Do Not Share the Link: The registration link is for your use only, for this team only.
There are 17 spots available on this team and I am looking to select the best 17 players to create a team of 9 forwards, 6 defence and 2 goaltenders. Part of the process is to select the players with the needed skill for this age and division but also a player that likes to be challenged, is positive, self-motivated, and team oriented. All players will be given equal consideration during the tryout process.
Evaluation Skates – Please ensure you review the BMHA 2025-2026 Rep Player Evaluation Policy and Process to determine if you need to attend these skates.

Evaluations:
The players will be evaluated by myself, as well as third party evaluators. Evaluators will be doing individual assessments during each ice time and will NOT discuss any results with anyone outside of these individuals.
During the tryouts, players will be evaluated on the following:
1. Hockey skills (skating, passing, shooting, puck control) and knowledge/ understanding (positional play, checking concept and game awareness)
2. Work ethic / focus on task
3. Attitude and behaviour / ability to follow instructions / coachability
PLEASE NOTE – If you are requesting feedback, please do so my email. Upon conclusion of BMHA tryouts, I will provide follow up to your inquiry.
Season Commitment:
Being part of a any team takes commitment. Part of being a member of the Barrie U16 “A” White team means you can expect to be at the rink 4-5 sessions per week on average. Practices, dryland, games, and team events are not considered voluntary. There will be playoff games during March Break and players will be expected to make a commitment to practices, league games, playoff, and tournaments before accepting to be part of Barrie U16 “A” White team. Families should consider the players outside hockey responsibilities prior to accepting a position on the team. In addition, there will be development practices throughout the year to support both goalies, defence and forwards. All opportunities will allow the team to focus on individual and team tactics, individual technical, conditioning as well as the overall understanding of the game.
To have team success it will require parents and guardians to take on rolls that will benefit the players and the team. Events such as our home tournament, fundraising, team building, dry land and other scheduled player learning opportunities will occur throughout the year. Parents and guardians should expect they will be called upon to assist in some or all the events. Volunteers are a necessity to make our team successful.
Players will be expected to be at the rink and ready to play with all equipment at an agreed time (typically 1hr prior to all games and practices). We will go over the timelines in more detail and essential requirements once the team has been selected.
We will build a culture of supporting each other to ensure we have success on and off the ice.
Financial Commitment:
Each family will be responsible for the BMHA fee as well as the team fee. The monies go towards items such ice time, development, equipment, tournaments, etc. Fundraising opportunities will be considered as a team. Financial requirements will be discussed at the opening team meeting.
Tournaments and League:
The team will be participating in the York Simcoe Minor hockey league, exhibition games and in a minimum of four tournaments throughout the year. Following the league schedule, we will pursue the right to represent YSML at the OMHA’s. We also have the option of having 4 exhibition games prior to the league start date to support our development. The tournaments will be discussed at the opening team meeting.
I wish all players a successful tryout and to do their best in what is asked of them during the tryout process.
Sincerely,
Brian MacIsaac
