PrintTryout Information

Dear Players and Parents/Guardian,

Welcome to the Barrie Colts U14BB tryouts for the 2025-2026 season! My name is Steve Farquharson and I'm the Head Coach of the U14BB team for the upcoming season. This page is to inform you about the tryout process and the commitment requirement for playing on this team.

Players need to show up at tryouts properly prepared mentally and physically. In addition to the fundamentals of skating, shooting and hockey sense, I will be looking for players who demonstrate the characteristics of dedication, hard work, focus, coachability, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude.

Tryout Schedule and Process

1.       There are a total of two scheduled tryouts. Please monitor the BMHA website to confirm the date, time and location of each tryout as these could be subject to change:

a.       Tuesday May 13th; 6:00 pm @ Allandale Recreation Centre (Red)

b.       Wednesday May 14th; 7:00 pm @ Allendale Recreation Centre (Red)

2.       Every player has been invited to this tryout for good reason. However, only 17 players can be selected. The Evaluation Team will select the 17 most appropriate players to form this team.

Please read and follow the BMHA 2025-2026 Tryout Process and Procedures

Players must attend all of the tryouts in the schedule above in order to be considered eligible to make the team.

Player Instruction:

  • Give your best effort and bring a positive attitude to the tryout process. The effort and attitude you display in tryouts will be expected of you through out the season in every practice and game.
  • Pay attention when a coach or on-ice instructor is speaking and follow instructions. If a player is unsure of any instruction given, it’s okay to ask any of the on-ice instructors for clarification.
  • A player may have signed up to play a certain position, but that could change at any point in the season if it is in the best interest of the team.

Commitment

Being a part of this team requires a significant  commitment by both the players and parents/guardians.  Players can be expected to be at the rink and team events 4-5 times per week, including weekday early morning 6AM practices, and 3-4 tournaments. During the season practices, games, and team events are not considered optional. The season and playoffs will run from September through to early April depending on our success in the playoffs, which will include games and practices during March Break of 2026.

I wish all players good luck through this tryout process, and look forward to watching everyone give their best efforts!
