Glenn Bellerby Tournament Champs!
Submitted By Sabrina Westbrooke on Sunday, January 5, 2020
This past weekend the Scotiabank Barrie Bantam AA Colts participated in their home tournament and they kicked off 2020 with a bang.

They opened the ten team tournament with a hard fought battle against the Timmins North Stars. Trailing 1-0 heading into the third the Colts tied it and eventually took the lead on a blast from Connor Champaigne. Barrie then held off a late surge to secure the 2-1 victory.
Game 2 saw Barrie take on the Kapuskasing Regional Express. This one was all Colts as they cruised to a 6-2 victory.
Game 3 saw the Colts get off to a slow start. Trailing the entire game Barrie peppered the Temiskaming Puckhounds net with 25 shots in the third period alone but couldn’t beat their stellar netminder with the equalizer, and eventually fell 3-2.
Game 4 saw Barrie face the Nickel City Jr Sons. Aiden Young opened the scoring on a beautiful short handed effort and Jack Giroux picked up the shutout in a 5-0 victory. The win put Barrie into the semi finals on Sunday morning.
The semi final pitted Barrie against the Whitby Wildcats. This was a rough and tumble, penalty filled, old time hockey game. Trailing 1-0 heading into the second, Barrie scored 3 quick goals to take the contest 3-1, and earn a spot in the championship.
The finals was a rematch against Nickel City. The Jr Sons put up a much tougher fight in this contest, opening the scoring in the first period. Matt Hammond tied it late in the first and Barrie would add 3 more goals to take the championship on home ice with a 4-1 victory.

Congrats Colts!
